Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to purchase clubs from you if I get a fitting session?

No, you are not obligated to buy clubs from the Club Maker. We build clubs to exact specifications according to the results of the fitting. However, the likelihood that you can get clubs built to those exact specification elsewhere are quite low. A customer may choose to purchase elsewhere, but we will only stand behind the results of a fitting if the order is placed with The Club Maker

How long will the fitting take?

Fittings last from 1 to 3.5 hours approximately. For example a driver fitting may take 1.5 hours while a full bag fitting may take 3.5 hours. Sometimes a full bag fitting is broken into two sessions to avoid tiredness setting in.

I heard that custom clubs are expensive. Is that true?

Surprisingly, custom-fit clubs often cost LESS than highly advertised, off-the-shelf clubs. You are not paying for expensive advertising and Tour Player endorsements. Prices depend on the type of shaft, the design of the grip and choice of clubhead. Equally important to the fitting, is the building. Be assured that we build your clubs one at a time with the highest quality components

How long does it take to get the clubs after the fitting?

The custom-build process takes approximately 14 days from when you place your order. Each piece is handmade at our location and measured for accuracy and weight.

Why Wishon clubheads?

Tom Wishon has been recognized for creating sophisticated, industry-acclaimed designs for clubheads, shafts and grips.
Tom has authored eight books on club-making, shaft-fitting and research, and custom club-fitting. Even more notable in Wishon’s career is the fact that he is credited with more than 50 golf industry design technology firsts and is the only designer from the custom club-making industry to have created models which have been used to win on the PGA Tour and in Ryder Cup competitions.

Wishon clubheads are hand-picked to exact loft and face angles to ensure that what you were fitted to is what you get, This is unheard of in the OEM line of clubs where the tolerance can be + or – 1 to 2 degrees. In other words, a driver purchased off the shelf that is stamped 10.5 degrees could range from 9 to 12 degrees or more.

What kind of warranty do custom clubs carry?

Your satisfaction is our best advertising. We stand behind every club we build. If you are not completely satisfied with your new custom clubs, return them within 30 days and we will adjust them to your liking.

Do I have to be a better player for custom clubs to matter?

Definitely not. As a matter of fact, if you are less skilled you need custom clubs more than the Pro.
“Now, let’s be clear—I am not saying that by being custom fit you can somehow go from being an average player to qualifying for next year’s U.S. Open. Buying new clubs—even truly custom fitted ones—is NOT a substitute for learning and “grooving” the proper swing fundamentals. It never has been. It never will be.

I AM saying, however, that equipment that doesn’t fit—the wrong length, lie, loft, shaft, face angle, grip, flex, or weight—will keep you from being all that you could be as a golfer. I have worked with a lot of teaching professionals and I can assure you, golfers who take lessons with properly fit clubs adapt to swing coaching much faster and more successfully than golfers who take lessons using golf clubs that are poorly fit.

The idea of custom fitting is to have clubs in which each fitting specification is matched to your size, strength, athletic ability, and your swing characteristics. For each club in the bag, the proper custom fitting specifications can reduce some of the shot mistakes caused by your less skilled swing. In addition, professionally custom fit clubs do not typically cost more than what you would pay for standard-made clubs off-the-rack. “ – Tom Wishon
